The Minnesota Timberwolves are set to sign forward T.J. Warren to their team on a 10-day contract, pending a medical check early this week as per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
Warren hasn’t played any games this season, but the Wolves have been keeping an eye on him throughout the year. They’re keen on strengthening their wing position, which is why they’ve opted for Warren.
He attended N.C. State and has an average of 14.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in his career, with a shooting percentage of 50.6% from the field and 35.4% from three-point range.
Warren had a promising start to his career after being drafted in 2014, with an average of 15.5 points in his first seven seasons. He played a significant role in the Pacers’ playoff team in 2019/20, averaging 19.8 points.
That season, he had an impressive performance in the NBA bubble, averaging 31.0 points and shooting 52.4% from three-point range, including a memorable 53-point game.
However, a foot injury limited his playing time over the next two seasons, affecting his career trajectory. Last season, he played 42 games between Brooklyn and Phoenix, averaging 7.5 points.
Justin Jackson’s 10-day contract is ending soon, so it seems the Wolves are swapping him out for Warren. Even after Jackson’s deal expires and Warren’s is finalized, Minnesota will still have an available roster spot.
