The Los Angeles Lakers have secured a two-way NBA contract with free agent center/forward Harry Giles III, as per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
This acquisition serves to strengthen the team’s center position following injuries to Christian Wood and Colin Castleton.
Rookie Castleton hasn’t been playing much this season, but he might have had a chance to play more if Wood wasn’t injured.
Currently, L.A. has Castleton, Skylar Mays, and Dylan Windler on two-way contracts. Castleton might be the one let go because of his injury, but that’s just my guess.
Giles, who was picked in the first round before, came back to the NBA in the 2023/24 season after missing two whole seasons due to knee injuries.
He signed a contract with the Nets, which wasn’t guaranteed and was for the minimum salary. He managed to stay on the team’s roster until January 7, which secured his full salary.
However, he didn’t get much playing time in Brooklyn, only appearing in 16 games and averaging 5.1 minutes per game. He scored an average of 3.4 points and grabbed 1.6 rebounds in his limited role.
Unfortunately, the Nets let him go last month to finalize a trade before the deadline.
