An unfortunate incident marred what was otherwise a promising road victory for the Orlando Magic in Utah on Thursday night – an injury befell their center, Wendell Carter Jr.
Carter sustained a fracture to his left hand’s third metacarpal when he fell while battling for a rebound in the final moments of their triumphant game.
The team has announced that Wendell Carter Jr. will undergo surgery to mend the fractured third metacarpal in his left hand. After the surgical procedure, Carter Jr. will go through a re-evaluation in approximately three weeks, and his condition will be updated accordingly.
Up until this point in the season, Carter had been the Magic’s starting center, averaging 9.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, while spending an average of 29.4 minutes on the court.
Although he had a sluggish start as a shooter with a .378/.313/.571 shooting line, he remains a crucial component in Orlando’s frontcourt, and his absence will be keenly felt.
Moritz Wagner and Goga Bitadze occupy the depth chart behind Carter at the center position and may find themselves taking on more significant roles until Carter is ready to make his comeback. The team has made a commendable 3-2 start to the season.
