Pistons Sign, Waive 4 Players Ahead of Regular Season

The Detroit Pistons have made a set of signings in preparation for the upcoming regular season.

The team revealed that they granted Exhibit 10 contracts to wings David Nwaba and Treveon Graham, forward/center Nate Roberts, and forward Ryan Turell.

However, all four of these players were subsequently released, Mike Curtis of the Detroit News reports.

Additionally, to accommodate these new signings, the Pistons decided to part ways with camp invitees Buddy Boeheim, Tosan Evbuomwan, Jontay Porter, and Zavier Simpson.

Among these four recently signed players, David Nwaba stands out with the most NBA experience.

He had played in 237 regular season games between 2017 and 2022 for the Lakers, Bulls, Cavaliers, Nets, and Rockets.

Despite not playing in the league last season, he spent most of the season with the Motor City Cruise, Detroit’s G League affiliate.

Nwaba had impressive stats in the G League, with 15.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game, making it likely for him to rejoin the team in the 2022/23 season.

His Exhibit 10 contract offers the potential for a bonus of up to $75,000 if he spends at least 60 days with the club.

Other players like Graham, Roberts, Turell, Boeheim, Evbuomwan, Porter, and Simpson are also expected to head to the Cruise.

Treveon Graham, 29 , boasts 180 games of NBA experience but hasn’t been in the league since the 2019/20 season.

He has been active in the G League and the Canadian Elite Basketball League in the meantime.

Roberts and Turell, who went undrafted in 2022 from Washington and Yeshiva, respectively, played supporting roles for the Motor City Cruise last season. The Cruise still retain their returning rights.

Importantly, these roster changes in Detroit did not involve Stanley Umude, a standout from the training camp who was also on an Exhibit 10 contract.

The Pistons still have one vacant 15-man roster slot and one open two-way slot, with Umude being a strong candidate to fill one of these openings.
