Rockets’ “Dillon The Villain” Fined $25K for Below-the-Belt Contact

The NBA has made an announcement of a $25k fine imposed on Dillon Brooks, who recently joined the Houston Rockets, for an incident in a pre-season game against the Indiana Pacers.

In the first quarter of the game, Brooks displayed an excessive level of aggression in attempting to maneuver around a screen set by Daniel Theis, inadvertently making contact with Theis in a sensitive area, which led to the center needing a moment to recover.

This infraction resulted in Brooks receiving a flagrant 2 foul and being promptly ejected from his very first game with his new team.

Following the game, Brooks humorously suggested that he often finds himself at the center of such incidents, possibly due to his past actions.

He remarked, “It’s quite strange; each time it happens to me, I seem to draw attention, but I suppose it’s a part of my notoriety.” With a touch of jest, he playfully dubbed himself “Dillon the Villain.”

This incident also marked the seventh ejection in his career, with the most recent one occurring during the playoffs against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Despite his reputation for fearlessly taking on opponents, the Rockets were undeterred and offered him a substantial four-year, $86 million contract as they aim to accelerate their rebuilding process.

Brooks made a significant contribution during Canada’s bronze-medal run at the FIBA World Cup, boasting a much-improved shooting percentage of 59.4% from the field and an impressive 58.8% from three-point range.
