The Utah Jazz made two roster moves on Wednesday, waiving Taevion Kinsey, a guard/forward, and center Nick Ongenda, as per the NBA’s official transaction page.
Both Kinsey and Ongenda were undrafted rookies who had signed with the Jazz in August. They did not participate in any of the Jazz’s preseason games.
Kinsey had a five-season stint at Marshall University, achieving the title of the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,641 points.
Ongenda, on the other hand, spent four seasons at DePaul, ranking fourth in the school’s history with 135 blocks.
In addition, the Jazz announced the signings of guard Michael Devoe and forward Keshawn Justice on the same day.
Devoe, with a four-season record at Georgia Tech, averaged 15.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in his last season there.
Justice, who played four seasons at Santa Clara, had averages of 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game during his final season.
Although the precise details of the agreements weren’t made public, it’s likely that Devoe and Justice have entered into Exhibit 10 contracts.
This arrangement typically leads to their eventual release and a move to the G League, where they will join the Salt Lake City Stars, the Jazz’s affiliate.
In this scenario, both players have the potential to earn bonuses of up to $75,000 if they spend a minimum of 60 days with the Stars.
The Jazz commenced the preseason with a 1-1 record, losing 103-98 to the Los Angeles Clippers. Their upcoming game is scheduled for Saturday against the Portland Trail Blazers at Vivint Arena.
Following a successful previous season with the best NBA record at 56-20 and reaching the Western Conference semifinals, the Jazz aim to build on their achievements.
The Jazz’s roster continues to stand at the maximum of 21 players contracted for the offseason. Among these, 12 players have guaranteed standard deals. Additionally, all three of Utah’s two-way contract slots have been filled.
