Tyler Herro is Happy He Didn’t End Up in Portland

The recent trade of Damian Lillard has sparked a range of emotions and opinions from NBA fans and players, including Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat.

Herro was one of the players whose names’ popped up frequently in the Damian Lillard sweepstakes, but the Milwaukee Bucks ultimately secured Lillard in a 3-team blockbuster deal.

According to reports, the Portland Trail Blazers were not interested in receiving Tyler Herro as part of a trade package for Lillard.

However, Tyler Herro has recently expressed contentment regarding the Trail Blazers’ lack of interest in trading for him saying :

“I didn’t want to go to Portland, so I’m glad Portland didn’t want me,” Herro told the Sun Sentinel. “I just don’t want to be in Portland. So it’s not personal with Portland, at all.

“I’m just happy to be on the court. I haven’t played since April. I broke my hand and I haven’t played since then, so I’m ready to play.”

Herro, originally selected as the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, embarked on his professional journey following a one-year stint playing college basketball at the University of Kentucky.

During his time with the Wildcats in the 2018-19 season, he maintained an average of 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, displaying a 46.2 percent field goal shooting rate over 37 games.

The shooting guard has since completed four seasons in the NBA, all while donning the revered Heat jersey.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Herro showcased his skills, tallying an average of 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game across 67 appearances.

His prowess extended to three-point shooting, as he impressively converted 37.8 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc during the regular season.

Herro will have the opportunity to demonstrate his skills and make a name for himself on the basketball court against the Trail Blazers come February 24, 2024.
