Portland Trail Blazers Re-Sign Skylar Mays on Two-Way Deal for the 2023-24 Season

The Portland Trail Blazers have made a move in re-signing free agent combo guard Skylar Mays on a two-way contract, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Mays’ journey in the NBA began when he was drafted as the No. 50 pick by the Atlanta Hawks in 2020, straight out of LSU. However, he struggled to secure a prominent role within the Hawks’ rotation during his two seasons with the team.

His recent basketball endeavors saw him splitting most of the 2022/23 season between the Delaware Blue Coats, the NBAGL affiliate of the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Capitanes de Ciudad de México, before finally finding his place in the Portland roster.

Standing at 6’4″, the seasoned guard made a brief appearance in only six games with the Trail Blazers during the 2022/23 season, initially on a 10-day contract.

Notably, he made a significant impact during those outings, boasting impressive statistics.

Mays averaged 15.3 points per game, displaying exceptional shooting efficiency with splits of 50%, 46.2%, and 92.3%.

His contributions extended beyond scoring, as he also averaged 8.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steal per game.

Skylar Mays’ return to the Trail Blazers on a two-way contract suggests that the team sees potential in his abilities and hopes to further harness his talents in the upcoming season.
