The official name of the San Antonio Spurs arena has undergone a transformation, with Frost Bank Center now proudly serving as the official home for the team.
After more than 15 years of playing at the AT&T Center and over two decades in this venue, the San Antonio Spurs have decided to embrace Frost Bank Center as their new home.
In an official statement, the team announced plans to commence the rebranding process this month. This rebranding effort includes updating arena signage both inside and outside the Frost Bank Center.
The changes will encompass marquee signage, ticket towers, the center court jumbotron, and various marketing materials. Most of these alterations to the in-arena and external signage will be completed before the upcoming season.
In addition to the name change, the Spurs’ arena is introducing an innovative “Puro Meter,” as revealed by Jeff Garcia, the host of Locked On Spurs.
“Starting with the 2023-24 season, the Frost Bank Center will feature the newly unveiled Frost Club, with a “Puro Meter” corridor mural and game-day interactive light show that changes with the volume of fan noise inside the arena bowl,” Jeff tweeted.
The AT&T sponsorship agreement for the franchise’s arena ended in 2021. In contrast, Frost Bank has a longstanding history of support for the team, dating back to the ABA era when the Spurs were known as the Dallas Chaparrals.
Frost Bank also held the distinction of being the team’s inaugural jersey patch sponsor in 2018.
Since 2002, the Spurs have considered this arena their home, initially named the SBC Center.
The venue underwent a name change to AT&T Center in 2006 and underwent extensive renovations in 2016.
This shift in nomenclature coincides with the arrival of rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama to the Spurs roster.
With this exciting development, both Wembanyama and the team are set to embark on a promising inaugural season at the newly christened Frost Bank Center, pending the official announcement.
