The Philadelphia 76ers are waiving Kenneth Lofton from his two-way contract, as per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Lofton, a 21-year-old forward/center, entered the NBA undrafted after his stint at Louisiana Tech in 2022.
He landed a spot with the Grizzlies, initially securing a two-way contract which transitioned into a standard deal by the close of his debut season in 2022/23.
Yet, Lofton encountered roster complications in Memphis, resulting in his departure in December as the team needed to accommodate Ja Morant’s return from a 25-game suspension. Shortly thereafter, he secured a two-way contract with Philadelphia.
After averaging 5.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game while shooting 52.7% from the field in 24 games (7.3 minutes per game) as a rookie, the 21-year-old has struggled in his limited NBA minutes this season.
He’s only managed to average 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds per game while shooting just 34.9% from the field in 17 games split between Memphis and Philadelphia (6.4 minutes per game).
Lofton only saw action in two games for the 76ers, spending most of his time with their G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
In 10 regular season games with the Blue Coats, Lofton posted impressive stats, averaging 27.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 blocks per game (29.8 minutes per game).
With 41 NBA games under his belt between the Sixers and the Memphis Grizzlies, Lofton is now on the lookout for his next opportunity in the league. Despite his limited playing time, his scoring ability could attract interest from potential teams.
Philadelphia currently has two spots available on its standard roster and will have an additional open two-way spot once Lofton’s release is finalized.
