The Philadelphia Sixers have officially exercised their fourth-year option on guard Jaden Springer, as per Sportrac’s NBA transactions.

While most decisions regarding rookie scale options are typically straightforward due to their relatively low financial impact on the salary cap, there was some uncertainty surrounding the Sixers’ choice to extend Springer’s contract for the 2024/25 season.

This decision might affect their ability to optimize their cap space in the upcoming offseason, which is a key objective for the team’s front office.

However, it’s clear that Philadelphia holds Springer in high regard, as they are committed to paying him a guaranteed amount of $4,018,363 for the next season.

The uncertainty regarding Springer’s fourth-year option was also influenced by his limited playing time in the NBA, having participated in only 18 regular season games for a total of 95 minutes during his first two seasons.

Nonetheless, Springer showcased his skills with the Delaware Blue Coats, the Sixers’ G League affiliate, during the 2022/23 season, earning the Finals MVP accolade as part of the NBAGL championship-winning team.

Jaden Springer was selected as the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, following a single college season at Tennessee.

He is one of the younger players from his draft class, having recently turned 21 years old and now entering his third NBA season.

Under the guidance of the new head coach, Nick Nurse, Springer has delivered strong performances during the preseason, and he has already made appearances in two of Philadelphia’s three games in the 2023/24 season, showcasing his shot-blocking abilities with three blocks in just 12 minutes of play.
